The government’s failure to make family planning — both natural and artificial — accessible to the poor worsened the poverty in the country, an economist from the University of the Philippines said Tuesday.

I just thought this was interesting because it has a lot to say about the conditions in the Philippines and its affect on people’s lives. A lack of family planning is causing the population to grow even more, but the amount of resources in the Philippines isn’t increasing at the same rate. There’s already a huge socioeconomic gap, and this widens that gap even more. Lower-income families may be larger in size, yet it is more difficult for them to become financially stable. They have to work even harder just to get by each day.

This is also a reflection of the education that is available in the Philippines. Not everyone in the Philippines has access to education, or at least not everyone is aware of the education that is available.
